Tom and Jerry‘s live-action/animated hybrid comedy has been moved from December 23 to March 5, 2021. Chloë Grace Moretz will star as the human-lead in the live-action/animated hybrid movie adaptation. Moretz will play an original character named Kayla, a new employee at a posh hotel.
Warner Bros.‘ Tom and Jerry movie will be directed by Tim Story (Shaft) with scripts from Katie Silberman (Booksmart), April Prosser (The Last Summer), and Kevin Costello. like in the original series Tom Cat and Jerry Mouse will be animated and will be silent characters.
Tom and Jerry short comedy animated series was created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera in 1940. The series spawn numerous spinoff series, video games, a feature-length film titled, Tom and Jerry: The Movie (1992), and 13 direct-to-video films. The series has also won seven Academy Awards for Animated Short Film.
The movie will follow Moretz’s character Kayla, a new employee at a posh hotel where Jerry takes up residence, threatening to ruin a glamorous wedding. She hires a broke alley cat named Tom to come in and get rid of Jerry, which proves to be easier said than done. That may be for the best, as the duo will likely need each other to defeat Kayla’s villainous boss, who isn’t a big fan of either one.
